Thornton

Welcome to Thornton

Thornton was a planned community from the beginning. Carved from farmland in 1953 by Sam Hoffman, the vision for Thornton was as a well-thought-out community, not just a housing subdivision.  Thornton grew and grew. By the 2020 census, Thornton had become the 6th largest city in Colorado.

Today, Thornton includes 230-acres of open space and 1,000-acres of developed park and recreation centers. The City of Thornton hosts Thorntonfest, Harvestfest and Winterfest that draw residents into the community.  Thornton was named after Governor Thornton at the time of its incorporation.

Thornton is home to the public Todd Creek Golf Club and the Carpenter Recreation Center.

From the beginning, Thornton was planned for greatness!
