Welcome to Erie

 

Yes, Erie CO was named after Erie PA by an early settler from Erie PA.  Erie was founded in 1874 and coal mining was the economic engine. The first railroad tracks arrived in 1871. The first school open in 1874 by the families of early settlers. The 1880’s saw the formation of three churches as more families settled in Erie. 

 

Briggs Street is the “main street” of Erie and includes several 100-year-old buildings. Today, Briggs Street is home to many restaurants as well as a weekly Farmers Market in the Summer.

 

The Town of Erie straddles East County Line Road with approximately 60% of its population in Weld County and 40% in Boulder County.

 

The Coal Creek Trail originates in Erie and, together with it’s various off-shoots, travels 14-miles through Lafayette, Louisville before connecting to additional trails in Superior. This trail is open to walking and biking.
