The Fraser Valley, including the Town of Winter Park, was inhabited by the Ute and Arapahoe tribes. Settlers started to arrive in the late 1800’s and a post office was established in 1876.
The ski mountain opened in 1939 and was owned and operated by the City and County of Denver. With the completion of the Moffat train tunnel, the Ski Train operated between Denver and the ski resort for 70-years when the train service ceased in 2009. Train service resumed in 2017.
In 2002, a partnership with Intrawest operated the ski resort. In 2018, Intrawest was acquired by Alterra Mountain Company.
Winter Park and the Fraser Valley are so much more than the ski resort. Summer activities include outdoor concerts, festivals, hiking, camping, mountain biking, fly fishing and more. The Fall Colors are especially stunning.
Continuing up the road north will take you to Grand Lake and the Rocky Mountain National Park.
